Smart Serve is the only responsible beverage service training program recognized by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which licenses bars, restaurants and hotels in Ontario. The program was developed with the support of the Commission and the Addiction Research Foundation.

Smart Serve uses a video training program to teach hospitality students to:

• recognize the signs of customer intoxication, and what to do about it
• create a pleasant, enjoyable and safe environment for customers
• understand what are a beverage server's responsibilities and legal obligations
